Pyzel Surfboards

From a North Shore backyard to a global surfboard brand.

Pyzel Surfboards began in a small backyard shaping room on Oahu's North Shore around 1995. Founder and shaper Jon Pyzel had moved to Hawaii in 1992, initially working at Country Surfboards repairing dings before progressing into laminating, hot coating and shaping.

Jon's shaping career developed under the guidance of master shaper Jeff Bushman. Then, in 1997, Alex Florence approached Jon about making a board for her five-year-old son, John John Florence. That first board began a relationship that would become one of the defining stories in modern surfboard design.

Today Pyzel is an international surfboard company, but it remains family-run. Boards are built around the world while Jon and the Pyzel team continue to develop designs from the North Shore, working with surfers who push the boards in everything from everyday beach breaks to some of the most demanding waves on the planet.
