The Phantom

A Ghost step-down designed to make everyday surf faster, easier and more responsive.

The Phantom was developed after Pyzel found that the Ghost was at its best in shoulder-high and bigger waves. The idea was to create a step-down that brought the same feel into the head-high and under conditions that make up much of a surfer's daily sessions.

Pyzel describes the Phantom as the Ghost squashed down, souped up and given added volume. The same Ghost rocker is retained, while more single concave is added through the centre to flatten the board and create speed and flow without losing the performance feel of the original.

Added width in the nose and tail creates a more parallel, fuller outline to help maintain speed through slower sections and tight turns. The rails are full but not chunky, adding flotation and speed while retaining sensitivity.

Wave Range 2–8ft

Best in waist-high to overhead waves of all types.

Rocker Medium

The Phantom keeps the Ghost rocker, with extra single concave through the centre to help create speed and flow.

Bottom Single with Double → Vee

Pyzel specifies a single with double to Vee bottom contour.

What makes it work

More everyday speed. Still plenty of performance.

The Phantom's design is centred around keeping the feel of the Ghost while making it work more effectively in less-than-epic conditions. The changes are deliberately focused on speed, flow, flotation and a fuller outline.

01 · Speed

More single concave

Extra single concave through the centre helps flatten the board and create speed and flow without taking away from the original performance feel.

02 · Outline

Fuller nose & tail

Added width in the nose and tail creates a more parallel, fuller outline that helps maintain speed through slower sections and tight turns.

03 · Rails

Full without being chunky

The fuller rails provide more flotation and speed while retaining the sensitivity Pyzel wants from the board.

The Phantom keeps the Ghost's basic rocker while widening the nose and tail. Pyzel says the added width creates a more parallel, fuller outline that helps keep speed up through slower sections and tight turns.

Why the Phantom?

The everyday step-down with a high-performance edge.

Pyzel created the Phantom specifically to bring the Ghost's feel into head-high and under conditions. It keeps the original rocker and performance character, then adds the volume, width and centre concave needed to generate more speed and flow in everyday surf.

The result is a daily-driver design intended for waist-high to overhead waves, with enough added flotation and speed to make less-than-epic conditions more workable without turning the board into a chunky shape.

Who is the Phantom for?

A daily driver for waist-high to overhead waves.

01 · Everyday conditions

Less-than-epic surf

The Phantom was developed for the head-high and under days that make up much of a surfer's regular sessions.

02 · Sizing

Start around your height

Pyzel recommends riding the Phantom around your height, a touch wider and about the same thickness as your Ghost.

03 · Performance

Floatation without losing sensitivity

The fuller rails add flotation and speed while the design retains the sensitivity and performance feel of the original.

Bob's Take

A Ghost-family step-down with a clear everyday brief.

The Phantom makes sense as the bridge between a high-performance Ghost and the less demanding conditions that make up many daily sessions. Pyzel has kept the Ghost rocker and performance feel, then altered the outline and bottom to create more speed and flow.

The added width through the nose and tail creates a fuller, more parallel outline, while the full-but-not-chunky rails add flotation and speed without sacrificing sensitivity.

For surfers looking for one daily-driver shape covering waist-high through overhead surf, the Phantom's design brief is very clear: make the Ghost concept work in more everyday conditions while keeping its performance character.

We'd start with your guide volume, then use Pyzel's own sizing guidance: around your height, a touch wider and about the same thickness as your Ghost.
