The Pyzalien 2

A fresh take on one of Pyzel's all-time favourites.

The original Pyzalien became a favourite by doing something a little different: combining a wide-point-forward outline, extra width and useful volume with a shorter-than-normal package that could still perform. More than ten years on, Pyzel has reworked that idea for the modern shortboard.

The Pyzalien 2 is designed to work across points, reefs and beach breaks, with one of Pyzel's most user-friendly high-performance rockers. The medium/low entry rocker blends into medium-plus tail rocker, giving the board easy speed from take-off while retaining response and control.

The result is a versatile daily driver that can carry speed through flatter sections without feeling disconnected when the waves have more push.

Wave Range 2–8ft

Designed to cover a broad range of everyday surf from points to reefs and beach breaks.

Rocker Medium / Low → Medium+

A smooth, user-friendly rocker helps create speed without switching off the performance side.

Bottom Single → Double → Vee

Concave under the board blends into Vee through the final six inches for release and rail response.

Easy speed is one thing. Keeping the board genuinely fun when you start pushing it is what makes the Pyzalien 2 interesting.

What makes it work

Easy speed first. Performance still very much included.

Pyzel's current description centres the Pyzalien 2 around the relationship between its rocker, bottom contour and fuller outline. The board is designed to accelerate easily, then stay responsive and controlled once you're moving.

01 · Speed

User-friendly rocker

Medium/low entry rocker helps the Pyzalien 2 generate speed quickly from take-off, while medium-plus tail rocker keeps the back end responsive.

02 · Drive

Fuller nose & wider tail

The clean outline has no hips or wings. More board through the nose and tail helps it carry speed and drive through flatter sections.

03 · Release

Single → Double → Vee

Single concave blends into double concave and then Vee in the final six inches, helping the board release and move cleanly from rail to rail.

The shape

Familiar Pyzalien DNA, refined for a modern shortboard.

The outline stays clean and simple: no hips, no wings, just a fuller nose and wider tail designed to create speed and drive while keeping the board flowing through flatter sections.

Pyzel also highlights a more domed deck and refined rails as major changes from the original. The idea is to manage the board's extra width and volume without making it feel cumbersome underfoot.

Outline Fuller nose with a wider tail; clean outline with no hips or wings
Rocker Medium/low entry rocker blending into medium-plus tail rocker
Bottom Single concave → double concave → Vee through the last 6"
Deck & rails More domed deck with refined medium rails
Tail Clean swallow tail for added release and snappiness

Why the Pyzalien 2?

More speed without making the board feel one-dimensional.

The Pyzalien 2 is not simply a wider shortboard with extra foam. The design is built around getting the board moving easily, then using the rocker, bottom contour and refined rails to keep that speed useful when the wave gives you something to work with.

That is why Pyzel positions it across such a broad range of everyday waves. Points, reefs and beach breaks can all work, and the board is designed to keep its flow when the wave temporarily goes flatter.

Who is the Pyzalien 2 for?

One shape, a surprisingly broad range of surfers.

01 · Daily driver

One board for a lot of conditions

The 2–8ft range and balanced rocker make the Pyzalien 2 a useful option when you want one shortboard to cover a broad spread of everyday surf.

02 · Performance surfer

Shorter and wider without switching off

Pyzel recommends experienced surfers start around 2–3 inches shorter and 1/4–1/2 inch wider than their standard shortboard, at the same thickness.

03 · Versatility

Points, reefs and beach breaks

The Pyzalien 2 is designed to move between different wave types rather than being locked into one particular kind of surf.

Bob's Take

A seriously useful everyday Pyzel.

The Pyzalien 2 is the kind of board that makes sense when you want one shortboard to cover a lot of the conditions you're likely to encounter.

The appeal isn't simply the extra width or volume. It is the balance between easy acceleration and the performance details that keep the board responsive: the medium/low entry rocker, tail curve, refined rails and single-to-double-to-Vee bottom.

For UK surfers, that broad daily-driver range is particularly interesting. You can have enough board under you to create speed when the surf isn't perfect, without stepping into something that feels disconnected when the waves improve.

We'd start with your guide volume, then use Pyzel's shorter/wider recommendation to work out the dimensions that make sense for your surfing.
