Surfworx Ribeye Mini Mal 7'6 — Navy

A forgiving, confidence-building foam surfboard with the stability and volume beginners need, while still giving progressing surfers a board they can enjoy as their skills develop. The Ribeye is designed to feel reassuring when you're learning, without feeling like a board you'll quickly outgrow.

Why We Like It

The Ribeye Mini Mal is built around the things that make learning to surf more enjoyable: a generous outline, useful volume, a stable platform and a quality soft construction. Its wide nose and tail and relatively flat rocker help make catching waves and getting settled on your feet feel more straightforward.

  • 7'6 length and 76 litres give beginners plenty of stability and paddle power.
  • High-density closed-cell foam core helps keep the board lightweight and resistant to becoming waterlogged if the outer skin is damaged.
  • Two resin-coated laminated wooden stringers run through the board to help it hold its shape.
  • HDPE slick bottom with integrated mesh membrane adds durability and helps the board perform more like a conventional surfboard.
  • Three-fin setup uses a concealed, FCS twin-tab-compatible system, giving you the option to experiment with compatible fins later.
  • Fins and leash are included, so you have the essentials to get started.

Who Is It For?

This is a strong choice for adult beginners looking for a stable first board, particularly surfers who want something manageable without immediately stepping into a shorter, less forgiving shape.

It's also a useful option for improving surfers who want an easy-going board for smaller days, summer sessions or simply having fun without taking things too seriously. The Ribeye's forgiving outline makes it suitable across a broad range of abilities.

Why the Ribeye Construction Matters

Not all foam surfboards are built the same. The Ribeye sits towards the more robust end of the softboard spectrum, combining a high-density closed-cell core with laminated wooden stringers, a durable HDPE slick and a high-density EBS deck skin.

The result is a softboard that still has a reassuring amount of structure underneath you. The stringers help maintain the board's shape, while the slick underside and mesh membrane are designed to improve durability and wave performance. The three-fin system is another useful step up from basic softboard fin arrangements.

Built for Catching Waves

The Ribeye's wide nose and tail and relatively flat rocker are a big part of its beginner-friendly character. There's plenty of board under you when you're paddling, and plenty of stability once you get to your feet.

For a new surfer, that can mean more waves caught, more time actually standing up and fewer sessions spent fighting an unstable board. And once you're progressing, the 7'6 shape still makes sense as a fun board for smaller, softer UK days.

Bob's Take

The 7'6 Ribeye hits a really useful sweet spot. It's big enough to give a beginner the stability and paddle power they need, but not so big that it becomes a chore once they're starting to turn and move around the board. Add the stronger construction, proper three-fin setup and included fins and leash, and you've got a foamie that's designed to take you well beyond those first few sessions.

Keep Learning

Choosing a first board is about more than length. Understanding volume, stability, construction and board shape will help you make a much more confident choice.
