Pyzel Crisis Twin
The Crisis Twin is a natural evolution from our Mid Length Crisis, which was typically ridden as a 2+1. We kept seeing people throwing twin keel fins into the forward boxes and realized it made the board a whole different thing, but the fin placement wasn’t optimal for control and performance.
The design was already well suited to being ridden as a twin, a semi-traditional, wide-point forward outline that is sleek and racey for fast, down- the-line drive, but full bodied enough to provide added stability and glide in weaker, slower waves, but we did make a few small tweaks to improve it, pulling in the nose outline a touch to add more curve for more carve, and also adding some nose rocker to tree it up a bit in tighter pockets and late drops.
Easy paddling, responsive and loose, it has a beautiful foil from beaked nose to round tail, with a rolled deck that leaves the meat in the middle of the board to help with paddling and nicely thinned out rails for sensitivity and bite. The outline is a long, clean curve, with no hip or wings, so it keeps a smooth flow on rail and through turns. The rocker is a moderate, long, clean curve running from tip to tail without any radical changes or flip.
It is designed for fast paddling and to easily generate speed, carry flow, and smooth turning at any speed. The bottom contours are a mild vee with double concave (the old school term is “Spiral Vee”). This basically means that the board has no problem tipping from rail to rail, making smooth transitions through turns an easy accomplishment for all levels of surfer.
The bottom line is that the Crisis Twin is a fast paddling, fast surfing and super fun addition to our Velocity Project lineup. It might help you look at weaker, funky waves with a little more lust, and it will for sure let you have a blast at any long, lined up wave you can find!
We recommend you ride this board as short or as long as you want, it works great as a little rip stick or a longer cruiser, whatever makes you happy.
Pyzel Surfboards is a renowned brand in the surfboard industry. It was founded by master shaper Jon Pyzel in the 1990s. Based in Hawaii, the brand quickly gained recognition for its innovation and high-performance designs. Jon Pyzel's deep understanding of the ocean and surfboard crafting was the foundation for the company’s success.
Pyzel's journey began with a passion for surfing, which led him to shape boards for himself and others. Over the years, his designs evolved, offering surfers new ways to push their limits. Pyzel Surfboards became well-known for their ability to adapt to the changing demands of the surfing world. Their boards are famous for speed, control, and precision.
One of the pivotal moments in Pyzel's history came when John John Florence, one of the world’s best surfers, began riding his boards. Florence, a native of Hawaii, was already making waves in the surfing world when he partnered with Pyzel. The collaboration proved to be a perfect match. Pyzel’s high-performance boards and Florence’s exceptional talent created a dynamic duo.
John John Florence’s success on the world tour, paired with his use of Pyzel boards, greatly boosted the brand’s visibility. Florence’s consistent results, including multiple World Surf League (WSL) championships, showcased the superiority of Pyzel’s designs. Their relationship was more than just professional; it became a symbol of innovation and excellence in the surf industry.
Over the years, Pyzel has continued to shape boards tailored to Florence's specific needs. Their ongoing partnership has led to the development of signature models, like the "Ghost" and the "JJF," both of which are tailored to competitive and big-wave surfing. These boards offer unmatched performance and have been key in Florence’s continued dominance in the sport.
Pyzel’s relationship with John John Florence is ongoing and has shaped both brands’ identities. Florence’s success continues to push the boundaries of surfboard design, while Pyzel’s expertise enhances his performance. Together, they have redefined what’s possible on a surfboard.
This ongoing collaboration has solidified Pyzel Surfboards as one of the top brands in the surf industry. Through their shared commitment to performance and innovation, Pyzel and Florence are set to continue influencing the sport for years to come.
A mid-length surfboard typically ranges from just under 6 feet to 8 feet in length. It blends elements of both shortboards and longboards. These boards offer a good balance between maneuverability and stability. Surfers often choose mid-length boards for versatile performance in various wave conditions.
Mid-length surfboards are ideal for intermediate surfers who want to progress further. They provide more paddling power compared to shortboards. At the same time, they are more agile than longer boards. This makes them perfect for those looking for a fun, responsive ride.
These boards often feature a single or slight double concave bottom. The design improves speed and flow across the wave. Mid-length boards work well in a wide range of wave sizes and shapes. Many surfers appreciate their ability to handle both small and large waves effectively.
