Surfworx Ribeye Mini Mal 8'0

A big, stable and forgiving foam surfboard designed to make learning easier, while giving progressing surfers plenty of volume and paddle power for smaller UK waves.

Why We Like It

Big, Stable & Forgiving

At 8'0 and 86 litres, the Ribeye gives beginners a generous platform under their feet. That extra stability can make a real difference when you're learning to balance, paddle and catch your first waves.

A Proper Step-Up From a Basic Foamie

The closed-cell foam core, twin wooden stringers and durable slick bottom give this board more structure and performance than a basic soft board, while keeping the forgiving character beginners need.

Ready to Grow With You

The three-fin setup is FCS twin-tab compatible, so as your surfing develops you can experiment with different compatible fins rather than immediately needing another board.

Who Is It For?

Complete Beginners

The 8'0 Ribeye is particularly well suited to adults learning from scratch who want maximum stability and a board that makes those early sessions as straightforward as possible.

Larger or Taller Beginners

With 86 litres of volume and an intended rider weight up to 100kg, this is a useful option when extra buoyancy and stability are important considerations.

Progressing Surfers

It's also a fun choice for improving surfers who want an easy-going board for smaller, softer days, summer sessions and relaxed surfing.

Built for Learning & Progression

The Ribeye Mini Mal combines a wide, forgiving outline with a high-density closed-cell foam core. The construction is designed to stay lightweight and durable without becoming waterlogged after damage.

Double resin-coated laminated wooden stringers help maintain the board's shape, while the slick bottom uses an integrated mesh membrane for durability and improved wave performance.

The three-fin system is another useful upgrade. Rather than relying on basic soft fins pushed through the deck, the Ribeye uses a proper fin setup that is compatible with FCS twin-tab fins, giving you room to change or upgrade your fins as your surfing develops.

Why Surfworx?

Surfworx has built its range around accessible, high-quality foam surfboards designed to make surfing enjoyable across different ability levels. The Ribeye sits at the more featured end of the range, combining beginner-friendly stability with construction and fin options that remain useful as your surfing improves.

Bob's Take

The 8'0 Ribeye is the board I'd be looking at when stability is the priority. With 86 litres underneath you, there's plenty of board to help you get comfortable, paddle efficiently and catch more waves. For a larger adult beginner, or someone who simply wants the easiest possible route into surfing, that extra size can be a real advantage. And because the construction and fin system are a step above a basic foamie, you're not necessarily buying a board you'll outgrow after your first few sessions.

Keep Learning

Choosing your first surfboard is about more than simply picking a length. Understanding volume, stability, construction and the difference between foam and hard boards will help you make a much more confident choice.
