Module 9 — 🌊 Taking Your Surfing Further
Taking Your Surfing Further
Move beyond simply riding waves and start developing the timing, positioning and wave knowledge that create better surfing.
🎓 Learn To Surf UK Academy
🎯 Module Mission
Turn the fundamentals you've learned into more deliberate surfing. You'll learn to read waves earlier, improve your take-off positioning, use the bottom turn, generate speed and link simple manoeuvres into a more flowing ride.
📚 In This Module You'll Learn
- How to select better waves and anticipate their shape.
- How take-off positioning changes your ride.
- How the bottom turn sets up the rest of the wave.
- How surfers generate and manage speed.
- How to link skills into a smoother, more purposeful ride.
🧭 Your Progression Path
Read the wave → position earlier → take off with purpose → bottom turn → generate speed → link the ride.
Don't rush through this module. The goal is better decisions and cleaner movement, not simply bigger waves or harder manoeuvres.
🏄 Bob Gnarly Tip
Progression isn't about doing more. It's about understanding more. If you can make one part of your surfing more deliberate, you're moving forward.
📖 The Five Lessons
Lesson 046
Reading Waves Like a Surfer
Learn to see the peak, shoulder, sections and wave shape before you paddle.
Lesson 047
Better Take-Offs & Positioning
Improve timing and positioning so you're taking off where the wave can actually help you.
Lesson 048
The Bottom Turn
Understand the foundation of direction, speed and control after take-off.
Lesson 049
Generating Speed
Learn how trim, pressure and wave energy work together to keep your board moving.
Lesson 050
Linking Your Surfing Together
Combine wave reading, positioning, turns and speed into a more complete ride.
🇬🇧 UK Surf Tip
UK waves can be short and inconsistent, which makes them excellent teachers. Use smaller, cleaner days to repeat the same movement rather than waiting for perfect surf.
🌊 One Final Wave…
The next level of surfing starts when you stop reacting to the wave and start anticipating it.
