Bob Gnarly Surf Brand Story

Arbor

Ride with purpose. Beautiful boards. Responsible progression.

Built around riding — and looking after where we ride.

Arbor was founded in 1995 with a pretty different idea about what an action-sports brand could be. From the beginning, environmental responsibility wasn't treated as a marketing add-on — it was part of the reason the company existed in the first place.

The brand launched with snowboards, combining innovative construction with traditional craftsmanship and responsibly sourced materials. Arbor was an early pioneer of using alternatives such as wood veneers, bamboo and other recycled, reclaimed and renewable materials.

Skateboarding followed soon after. Arbor began repurposing old snowboards into big-wheel skates for riding when there wasn't any snow, eventually developing a dedicated skateboard range built around the same ideas of performance, craftsmanship and sustainability.

Today, Arbor's approach still revolves around the same basic principle: make beautifully considered boards that perform properly, while being more thoughtful about the materials and processes used to make them.

Arbor skateboards and sustainable board craftsmanship

More than just a nice-looking board.

Arbor's sustainability story runs right through the construction of its boards. The brand has consistently explored responsibly sourced wood, bamboo, recycled materials and lower-impact alternatives as part of its product development.

That thinking also led to Arbor's Returning Roots programme, which has supported forest preservation and restoration since the brand's earliest days. A particular focus has been the restoration of native Koa forests in Hawaii — a place with a deep connection to the roots of surfing and board culture.

We like that the idea isn't simply about making a board and calling it sustainable. Arbor has built a bigger philosophy around the materials, the manufacturing process and the places that make the sports we love possible.

Why we like Arbor.

Arbor has always felt like a brand made by people who actually enjoy riding. The boards have plenty of personality, the craftsmanship is obvious and there's a genuine connection between the way the products are made and the places they're designed to be ridden. For us, that's the sweet spot — great-looking kit, proper performance and a brand that thinks beyond simply selling another board.
