Who are Venture.
Venture Trucks is one of skateboarding’s most respected and enduring truck brands, with a history deeply tied to the evolution of modern street skating. Founded in the early 1980s by the Vitello family under the Ermico umbrella in San Francisco, Venture was created during a period when skateboarding was rapidly expanding beyond pools and vert ramps into street terrain. At the time, truck design was still developing, and most companies focused on heavier, bulkier models aimed at transition skating. Venture entered the market with a different vision: lighter, more responsive trucks built for technical control, grind consistency, and street performance.
From the beginning, Venture distinguished itself through innovation and its close connection to skateboarders pushing progression in real time. The brand gained major visibility when pioneering street skaters such as Mark Gonzales adopted Venture trucks. Gonzales, one of the most influential skateboarders in history, helped define street skating in the late 1980s, and his association with Venture gave the company instant credibility among a new generation of skaters. As handrails, ledges, stairs, and technical flip tricks became central to skateboarding, Venture became one of the defining truck brands of that era. Their lighter feel and tight turning geometry appealed directly to skaters looking for precision in street environments.
In the early 1990s, Venture made one of its most important contributions to skateboarding by adapting truck design specifically for technical street skating. Under Greg Carroll’s direction, the company introduced lower-profile “Featherlight” models that reduced weight and improved flick response for flip tricks. This design evolution aligned perfectly with the rise of technical street skating led by riders like Eric Koston, Paul Rodriguez, and Terry Kennedy in later years. Venture also helped popularize the smaller, modern mounting-hole pattern that became standard across skateboard manufacturing, solving practical issues street skaters faced when doing noseslides and tailslides on ledges. This innovation changed truck and deck compatibility across the industry and influenced nearly every major truck company that followed.
Beyond product innovation, Venture’s impact on skate culture has always come through its team riders. Over the decades, Venture has supported some of the most stylish and technically influential skaters in the world, including Gino Iannucci, Paul Rodriguez, Felipe Gustavo, Stevie Williams, and Rodrigo TX. Each rider brought a unique approach to skating, helping shape Venture’s identity as a brand rooted in progression, style, and street credibility. Unlike some companies that built their image through aggressive marketing alone, Venture earned loyalty by consistently backing skaters whose influence extended beyond contests into the streets, videos, and magazines that define skate culture.
Another major reason for Venture’s longevity is its manufacturing consistency. Produced in the United States through the Ermico foundry system, Venture benefited from the same quality-control infrastructure associated with some of skateboarding’s most trusted hardware brands. This gave skaters confidence that Venture trucks would maintain durability while still evolving with changing trends in deck shapes, wheel sizes, and skating styles. Even as skateboarding globalized and many brands outsourced production, Venture retained strong loyalty among core skaters because of its balance of performance, heritage, and reliability.
Today, Venture remains one of the defining names in skateboard hardware. Its legacy is not simply in selling trucks, but in helping shape the way modern skateboarding feels under a rider’s feet. From pioneering lightweight street-focused designs to influencing industry standards in truck geometry and mounting systems, Venture has played a critical role in the technical evolution of skateboarding. More than forty years after its founding, the brand continues to represent authenticity, progression, and the street-driven spirit that transformed skateboarding forever.
