Ghost XL

A bigger-volume performance board built from the DNA of the legendary Ghost — giving surfers more paddle power and wave-catching ease without losing the speed, control and rail sensitivity needed when the surf gets serious.

High Performance 2–12ft Thruster · Quad · 5-Fin Power & Control

The Ghost XL

More board. More paddle power. Still a Ghost.

The Ghost XL takes the performance characteristics that made the original Ghost such a successful design and adds more width, thickness and volume to the package.

The extra foam is pushed forward to help the board get into waves more easily, while the tail and rails remain refined enough to hold through fast sections, powerful turns and critical surfing.

Wave Range 2–12ft

A serious wave range covering everything from quality beach breaks and reefs through to powerful, hollow surf.

Outline Refined · Wide Point Forward

The outline carries more foam forward while keeping the nose controlled and the tail pulled in for tighter, more critical surfing.

Bottom Single → Double → Vee

A fast single concave with double concave inside it creates lift, speed and quick rail-to-rail transitions.

Fin Setup Thruster · Quad · 5-Fin

The Ghost XL can be configured for different approaches, from a controlled thruster setup to a faster five-fin option.

“
The Ghost XL is what happens when you give a high-performance board a little more breathing room — without taking away the reason you wanted a Ghost in the first place.

What makes it work

Extra foam. Serious performance.

The Ghost XL is not simply a bigger Ghost. Pyzel has redistributed the extra volume in a way that makes the board easier to paddle and catch waves while preserving the important performance characteristics of the original design.

01 · Paddle

More foam where you need it

The thickness is pushed forward through the board, helping the Ghost XL get moving earlier and making it easier to catch waves without turning the board into a bulky, slow-feeling shape.

02 · Speed

Medium-low entry rocker

The front half of the rocker is kept relatively moderate to help generate speed quickly, while the rear rocker provides the curve needed for tighter turns and control.

03 · Control

Refined rails and round pin

The tail and rails are deliberately kept thinner so the board can hold its line through fast, powerful sections and stay responsive when pushed hard.

The shape

The Ghost DNA, with more room to perform.

The Ghost XL retains the refined outline of the Ghost family, with the wide point pushed slightly forward of centre and a controlled nose area leading into a pulled-in round pin tail.

The additional thickness and width are concentrated where they can improve paddle power and wave entry, while the rails and tail remain refined enough for the board to be driven hard through the pocket.

Outline Refined performance outline with wide point slightly forward
Rocker Medium / low entry rocker with increased curve through the tail
Bottom Single concave with double concave blending into Vee
Rails Medium / Standard refined performance rails
Tail Round Pin
Fin options Thruster, Quad and 5-Fin

Who is the Ghost XL for?

High performance surfing with a little more help.

01 · Intermediate

A more accessible performance board

The extra volume makes the Ghost concept easier to paddle and catch waves on, giving intermediate surfers a more forgiving route into a genuinely high-performance shape.

02 · Advanced

A powerful everyday performance option

For experienced surfers, the Ghost XL offers a useful combination of paddle power and high-performance control — particularly when the waves have some proper energy.

03 · Bigger Surfers

More volume without stepping away from performance

The XL concept makes particular sense for surfers who need more volume than a conventional Ghost but still want a refined, responsive board rather than a purely volume-driven shape.

Bob's Take

The Ghost XL might be the sweet spot for surfers who want performance without making wave catching unnecessarily hard.

The original Ghost has earned its reputation as a serious performance board, particularly when the waves have some power and curve. The Ghost XL takes that concept and makes it more accessible by adding useful volume without simply turning it into a completely different type of board.

That's what makes it interesting for UK surfers. We don't always get perfect, powerful surf, but when the good stuff arrives you still want a board that can handle speed, steep sections and proper turns.

The Ghost XL's combination of forward volume, refined rails, round pin and strong tail rocker gives it that balance. It should help you get into waves without compromising what happens once you're actually riding them.

Pyzel recommends ordering the Ghost anywhere from your height up to around 8 inches over, with additional width and thickness compared with your everyday shortboard depending on the conditions and performance you're looking for.
