The White Tiger is our latest Funformance offering, a stubby surfboard designed for average or below-average waves. It gets up easily, flies through weak sections, and lets you smash the lip and boost airs.

The first board was a side project for John John Florence, who rarely rides "fun" boards, sticking to pure performance. It sat in his garage for about a year. Meanwhile, I made a few for his brother Ivan. Ivan's surf/skate style was a perfect fit, and soon he loved it, sending clips of big carves and boosted airs. Finally, JJF pulled out his 5'6" and immediately had fun. Now, it’s one of his favorite boards for when he's off the tour.

Here's the basic info on what makes the White Tiger go:

It has a clean, stubby outline with a full nose and wide squash tail. There’s no hip, and the wide point is 1 ½" forward of center. The tail is slightly wider than the nose.

The thickness is concentrated forward, with a beak-nose design that maintains volume under the chest for better paddle power. The bottom rocker is even and flowing, flat throughout, designed to get up on the water quickly and carry speed.

The bottom has a single/double concave in the front 2/3s, transitioning into a pronounced vee/double concave in the last 1/3. The concave gives speed while helping the wider design transition from rail to rail. The vee at the tail helps the board tip onto the rail and turn up into the lip with ease.

It has a relatively flat deck that blends into tapered rails. This keeps volume while ensuring sensitivity through turns and easy pumping down the line without feeling too boaty.

The History of Pyzel Surfboards

Pyzel Surfboards is a renowned brand in the surfboard industry. It was founded by master shaper Jon Pyzel in the 1990s. Based in Hawaii, the brand quickly gained recognition for its innovation and high-performance designs. Jon Pyzel's deep understanding of the ocean and surfboard crafting was the foundation for the company’s success.

Pyzel's journey began with a passion for surfing, which led him to shape boards for himself and others. Over the years, his designs evolved, offering surfers new ways to push their limits. Pyzel Surfboards became well-known for their ability to adapt to the changing demands of the surfing world. Their boards are famous for speed, control, and precision.

One of the pivotal moments in Pyzel's history came when John John Florence, one of the world’s best surfers, began riding his boards. Florence, a native of Hawaii, was already making waves in the surfing world when he partnered with Pyzel. The collaboration proved to be a perfect match. Pyzel’s high-performance boards and Florence’s exceptional talent created a dynamic duo.

John John Florence’s success on the world tour, paired with his use of Pyzel boards, greatly boosted the brand’s visibility. Florence’s consistent results, including multiple World Surf League (WSL) championships, showcased the superiority of Pyzel’s designs. Their relationship was more than just professional; it became a symbol of innovation and excellence in the surf industry.

Over the years, Pyzel has continued to shape boards tailored to Florence's specific needs. Their ongoing partnership has led to the development of signature models, like the "Ghost" and the "JJF," both of which are tailored to competitive and big-wave surfing. These boards offer unmatched performance and have been key in Florence’s continued dominance in the sport.

Pyzel’s relationship with John John Florence is ongoing and has shaped both brands’ identities. Florence’s success continues to push the boundaries of surfboard design, while Pyzel’s expertise enhances his performance. Together, they have redefined what’s possible on a surfboard.

This ongoing collaboration has solidified Pyzel Surfboards as one of the top brands in the surf industry. Through their shared commitment to performance and innovation, Pyzel and Florence are set to continue influencing the sport for years to come.
