The Wildcat

A channel-bottom twin built around speed, flow and easy surfing.

The Wildcat takes inspiration from beautiful twin-fin designs of the past, then runs those classic ideas through Jon Pyzel's modern curves and contours. The result is a sleek, timeless-looking board that still delivers the speed and performance Pyzel is known for.

Its bottom curve is clean and relatively flat, giving the board strong paddle speed and easy acceleration from the moment you get to your feet. A single/double concave blends into moderate V and four channels through the tail, helping the board roll from rail to rail and respond quickly to weight shifts.

The result is a fast, flowing twin that can carry speed through softer sections while still offering enough bite and control for snappy pivots and sweeping carves.

Wave Range 1–8ft

Designed to cover a broad range of everyday surf from points to reefs and beach breaks.

Rocker Medium

Medium nose rocker blends into a low tail rocker, allowing the board to glide easily and carry speed through flatter sections while still surfing vertically.

Bottom Single → Double → Vee with Channels

A single/double concave runs into moderate Vee and four channels through the tail, helping the board roll from rail to rail with extra bite and release.

Fin Setup Twin

The Wildcat is a twin-fin-only design.

What makes it work

Classic twin-fin flow. Modern Pyzel performance underneath.

Pyzel's current description centres the Wildcat around its clean forward-wide outline, moderate rocker and Spiral Vee bottom. The idea is simple: paddle fast, generate speed easily and keep the board flowing through turns.

01 · Speed

User-friendly rocker

Medium nose rocker blends into low tail rocker, helping the board glide over flatter sections while retaining enough curve to surf vertically.

02 · Drive

Fuller nose & wider tail

The wide point sits just above centre, with a moderately wide nose and a classic single-wing rounded pintail. The wing and pin work with the channels to combine drive and manoeuvrability.

03 · Release

Single → Double → Vee with Channels

Single/double concave blends into moderate V and four channels through the tail, helping the board roll from rail to rail and respond quickly to weight shifts.

The shape

Classic twin-fin lines, refined for modern performance.

The outline is a long, clean curve with no hips or wings. Pyzel keeps the board wide-point-forward for stability and glide, while pulling the nose in slightly to add more curve and carve.

A rolled deck keeps the meat through the centre for paddling, while thinned-out rails add sensitivity and bite.

Why the Wildcat?

Timeless twin-fin flow without losing modern performance.

The Wildcat is not simply an old-school twin template. The fin placement, pulled-in nose and added nose rocker were refined specifically to make the twin setup more controlled and useful in tighter sections.

Pyzel positions it from 1–8ft, with enough glide for weaker surf but enough response to handle long, lined-up waves and tighter pockets.

Who is the Wildcat for?

One twin, a surprisingly broad range of surfers.

01 · Daily driver

One board for a lot of conditions

The 1–8ft range and moderate rocker make the Wildcat a natural choice for smaller, weaker and more playful surf.

02 · Performance surfer

Shorter, wider and a touch more volume

Pyzel recommends going an inch or two shorter than your Daily Driver, around half to one inch wider, and with a touch more volume.

03 · Versatility

Speed, flow and easy surfing

The Wildcat is designed to carry speed through softer sections while still offering enough response for snappy, pivoted turns and sweeping carves.

Bob's Take

A modern twin with timeless lines.

The Wildcat is interesting because it isn't trying to be a conventional high-performance shortboard with twin fins bolted on. Pyzel designed the whole package around speed, flow and a more natural twin-fin feel.

The appeal is the combination of a classic-looking outline, clean bottom curve, single/double concave, moderate V and four tail channels. The wing and rounded pintail work with those channels to add both drive and manoeuvrability.

For UK surfers, the 1–8ft range is especially appealing. This is the kind of board that can make small, weaker or slightly funky days feel more worth paddling out for.

We'd start with your guide volume, then follow Pyzel's sizing guidance: go an inch or two shorter than your Daily Driver, around half to one inch wider, and add a touch more volume.
