Crisis Twin

A twin-fin evolution of the Mid Length Crisis, built around speed, flow and easy paddling — with enough curve and response to keep things loose and fun.

The Crisis Twin

A twin-fin built around speed, flow and easy fun.

The original Pyzalien became a favourite by doing something a little different: combining a wide-point-forward outline, extra width and useful volume with a shorter-than-normal package that could still perform. More than ten years on, Pyzel has reworked that idea for the modern shortboard.

The design keeps a semi-traditional, wide-point-forward outline that is sleek and racey for down-the-line drive, but full-bodied enough to add stability and glide in weaker waves. Pyzel pulled the nose in slightly and added some nose rocker to increase curve and free the board up in tighter pockets and late drops.

The result is a fast-paddling, fast-surfing twin that can make weaker, funkier waves more appealing while still feeling right at home on long, lined-up waves.

Wave Range 1–6ft

Designed to cover a broad range of everyday surf from points to reefs and beach breaks.

Rocker Medium Low

A moderate, long and clean rocker curve is designed to paddle quickly, generate speed and keep turns smooth.

Bottom Vee with Double to Vee

Concave under the board blends into Vee through the final six inches for release and rail response.

What makes it work

Speed and flow first. Loose, responsive twin-fin performance included.

Pyzel's current description centres the Crisis Twin around its clean forward-wide outline, moderate rocker and Spiral Vee bottom. The idea is simple: paddle fast, generate speed easily and keep the board flowing through turns.

01 · Speed

User-friendly rocker

A moderate, long and clean rocker curve runs tip to tail without radical changes, helping the board paddle fast and maintain flow at any speed.

02 · Drive

Fuller nose & wider tail

The long, clean outline has no hips or wings, creating a smooth rail line and consistent flow through turns.

03 · Release

Vee with Double to Vee

Mild Vee with double concave — the classic 'Spiral Vee' — helps the board tip from rail to rail and transition smoothly through turns.

The shape

Familiar Pyzalien DNA, refined for a modern shortboard.

The outline is a long, clean curve with no hips or wings. Pyzel keeps the board wide-point-forward for stability and glide, while pulling the nose in slightly to add more curve and carve.

A rolled deck keeps the meat through the centre for paddling, while thinned-out rails add sensitivity and bite.

Rocker Moderate, long and clean curve from nose to tail
Bottom Mild Vee with Double Concave — 'Spiral Vee'

Why the Crisis Twin?

More flow without losing response.

The Crisis Twin is not simply an old-school twin template. The fin placement, pulled-in nose and added nose rocker were refined specifically to make the twin setup more controlled and useful in tighter sections.

Pyzel positions it from 1–6ft, with enough glide for weaker surf but enough response to handle long, lined-up waves and tighter pockets.

Who is the Crisis Twin for?

One twin, a surprisingly broad range of surfers.

01 · Daily driver

One board for a lot of conditions

The 1–6ft range and moderate rocker make the Crisis Twin a natural choice for smaller, weaker and more playful surf.

02 · Performance surfer

Ride it short or ride it long

Pyzel recommends riding it as short or as long as you want, and wider than your daily driver.

03 · Versatility

Little rip stick

Ride it shorter for a lively little rip stick, or longer for a smoother cruiser. Pyzel deliberately leaves the sizing open to personal preference.

Bob's Take

A twin-fin that makes weaker waves look more interesting.

The Crisis Twin is interesting because it isn't trying to be a conventional high-performance shortboard with twin fins bolted on. Pyzel designed the whole package around speed, flow and a more natural twin-fin feel.

The appeal is the combination of a clean, forward-wide outline, moderate rocker, rolled deck and Spiral Vee bottom. Add the dedicated twin setup and you get a board designed to paddle quickly, carry speed and move smoothly from rail to rail.

For UK surfers, the 1–6ft range is especially appealing. This is the kind of board that can make small, weaker or slightly funky days feel more worth paddling out for.

We'd start with your guide volume, then use Pyzel's unusually open sizing advice: shorter for a little rip stick, longer for a cruiser, and generally wider than your daily driver.
